Volkswagen, which ceased operations in Russia a year ago, is putting obstacles in the way of companies trying to establish parallel imports of cars from China to Russia.
The German edition of Handelsblatt published material about VW’s covert attempts to prevent the supply of cars to us produced in the group’s joint ventures in China. The publication refers to an unnamed source in the leadership of the German car giant. Chinese joint ventures supply their products to local dealers, some of whom then resell these machines to Russia. And VW, in the eyes of European politicians, is trying to maintain “sanctioned virginity” and is trying to block such a channel for the supply of cars to the domestic market.
To do this, the Germans created a kind of blacklist of Chinese companies selling cars with our country. And they forbid their representatives in China to trade with them. Apparently, we are talking about a VW JV with Chinese SAIC and FAW, who supply electric vehicles and traditional passenger cars to their country’s domestic market.
Note that the fate of the VW plant in Kaluga, which has been shut down since last spring, has not yet been decided. Earlier it was reported about the likely transfer of this company under the control of the Volkswagen-friendly Chinese FAW. Allegedly after that, the assembly of “Chinese” VW models for sale in Russia would begin there. In addition, in the near-automobile environment, there were rumors of negotiations between AVTOVAZ and the same FAW on reprofiling the Nissan St. Petersburg plant, inherited by the Russians, for the assembly of “German-Chinese” cars.
Now, in light of the publication of Handelsblatt, talking about the appearance of VW models from the Chinese market in Russia seems to have no real ground.
