Avtotor decided to switch thousands of Russian cars with internal combustion engines to electricity
It has long been known that the Kaliningrad Avtotor creates a whole cluster for the mass production of electric vehicles and components for them. Although it is still not really clear: to whom it is intended to sell these products. The AvtoVzglyad portal seems to have found out what the management of the westernmost Russian car plant hopes for in this sense.

The head of the Avtotor holding company, Vladimir Shcherbakov, spoke about his company’s plans to start the process of converting normal cars with internal combustion engines into electric trains.

– We have proposed to the government (and it supports us) to make 150,000 electric motors of different sizes and to make controllers for the entire industry. We will produce electrical kits to replace the old internal combustion engine together with the gearbox with a new electrical one for machines already in use,” he said.

In Russia, there are already several companies at the same time that want to make the broad masses of the population happy with electric transport. Suffice it to recall the Lipetsk “Evolute”, the announcements of the release of electric “Moskvich”, as well as a motley collection of purebred Chinese “electric trains”, the announcements of the sale of which are filled with specialized sites. We should not forget KAMAZ’s ambitions in the field of electric passenger transport.

Yes, and Avtotor itself would completely switch to the production of exclusively electric vehicles by 2024. But apparently, about a month ago, as a first step in this direction, he began assembling the Kaiyi E5 gasoline sedan – “no” Chery Arrizo 7.

Nevertheless, the obsession to fill snowy Russia with beautiful little green electric cars still does not let go of Kaliningraders. Despite the fact that the car market numbers simply scream about the madness of this business idea: in 2022, the Russians bought less than 3,000 electric trains. Even if we take into account a bad year, such a market size is nothing to the impending revelry in the production of such vehicles in our country.

The leadership of “Avtotor” similar incendiary thoughts, apparently, also went somewhere. And a “wonderful” way out was found: let’s convert cars with internal combustion engines to electric traction. The price of replacing a traditional car power plant with an electric motor when this process is initiated should not exceed 80,000 rubles, Avtotor told Izvestia.

Now it remains only to wait for tens of thousands of citizens to appear in Russia who are ready to arrange a similar vivisection for their own passenger car.
