Through a letter sent to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), ford showed that he leaves aside autonomous car market. Apparently, at least for now, the manufacturer intends to bet on electric vehicles (EV) and on improving the technology of partial and conditional autonomous driving.

Bestune E05 electric car could arrive in Brazil in 2023 with …

The Bestune E05 model is focused on passenger transportation and will have a range of up to 419 km.

The company has withdrawn its petition seeking U.S. regulatory approval for deployment to 2500 cars autonomous vehicles annually without the need for human control such as a steering wheel. The petition was filed by Ford in July 2021 but was only made public this week.

A new statement that says decision to close its stand-alone Argo AI business, sent in by Global Director Emily Frascaroli. In the letter, the company says it is not moving ahead with plans to develop Level 4, i.e. fully autonomous vehicles. In contrast, Ford plans to limit its focus to improving and implementing Level 2 (Partial Driving Automation) and Level 3 (Conditional Driving Automation) autonomous driving technologies in its vehicles.

Electric vehicles: China maintains leadership in the use and production of electric vehicles

In the first paragraph of the document, Ford said it had applied for a two-year temporary exemption to develop, evaluate and deploy its automated driving system (ADS).

“As evidenced by the planned closure of our partner ADS Argo Al, we believe the path to fully autonomous vehicles at scale and with a profitable business model will be a long one. Ford has now decided that this is more reasonable. to focus on short-term L2/L3 (level 2 and 3) that do not require a waiver. Therefore, we are exempt from further consideration and would like to withdraw the pending waiver petition for further consideration.”the manufacturer said.
