Why is it necessary to carry FUM tape in every used car?
The birds flew in, it got warmer, it bloomed. A few more weeks, and residents of megacities will rush to their dachas and clog all outgoing highways. And, of course, they will begin to “boil” en masse, lengthening the already long traffic jams. This typical summer problem is extremely difficult to predict, but there is a simple method to solve it quickly. And which one, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Seedlings on the windowsills, a scraped chopper and a bag of worn out “still usable” things strongly indicate the approaching opening of the summer season. And these are multi-kilometer traffic jams on Friday, in which heavily traveled cars, which make up the lion’s share of the domestic fleet, begin to boil.

Clogged radiators, “dead” pumps, lack of antifreeze, soured valve plugs that have not been updated for a long time and, of course, rather worn cooling system pipes. It is impossible to guess what and why will fail to lay a straw in advance. So, almost every driver of a car older than three years has a chance to see a column of steam under the hood.

One of the most common causes of this problem is the nozzles: they wear out, turn brown and begin to slip under pressure. Some craftsmen “sing mantras” to sealants on which they apply rubber, but this makes no sense: antifreeze corrodes such “fasteners” and continues its destructive activity. The sealant comes loose, falls apart and becomes unusable after a few miles. So a different, more reliable and sustainable tool is needed.

This may be a FUM tape, which is actively used by plumbers. They use synthetic flax to seal various connections – batteries, heated towel rails, sewers. FUM tape prevents leaks or acts as a “support” with increased wear. It is important that it guarantees a good seal in hot liquid systems. And this is exactly what we need. Yes, and such a tape costs a penny – from 120 rubles for a whole reel, which will last a long time.

The snake jumped off, a column of smoke, sighs of desperation from the back seat – calm, only calm! When the “consequences” disappear and the engine cools down a little, you just need to wrap the artificial linen around the counterpart and put the tube back in place, if possible, secure it with an additional clamp (even a plastic one will do ). After that – you need to add coolant and move on. It will certainly “live” before the dacha.

But then you need to figure it out – find out the true reason for what happened. Is the pipe itself “tired” or has the pressure in the system really increased due to the failure of the valve in the cap of the expansion tank or radiator? Or maybe the last one is long overdue for a cleaning or replacement? The release of steam is a symptom of a disease that needs to be treated. And the faster, the cheaper.
