How you can save a lot on the maintenance of a diesel car
Despite everything, there are enough owners of passenger cars with diesel engines in Russia. Including originally from Europe – with their environmental problems in the form of the Adblue system. The maintenance of this “green happiness” is extremely expensive, but it is still possible to significantly reduce costs. How exactly, says the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

If anyone is not aware, Adblue is a system that, by injecting a urea solution into the exhaust duct of a diesel engine, reduces the amount of nitrogen compounds in the exhaust gases. And this process is controlled by Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). Ecology is great. But only modern devices place high demands on the quality of the same urea solution. Accordingly, car owners are forced to use an expensive “European” product instead of Russian counterparts.

In addition, “urea” tends to freeze at temperatures below -11ºС, which makes the Adblue system a pointless and expensive “add-on” to the car in regions with cold winters.

But there is a way out. It is popularly called “Adblue cutoff” or “urea cutoff”. There are two ways to neutralize the SCR system. The first is to introduce a fake device called the Adblue emulator into the “brain” of the machine. It imitates the measurements of sensors that control the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases.

Those who decide to use this method should bear in mind: devices of Chinese origin are often not reliable, they are not protected against aggressive environmental influences and are not programmed for all the required engine operating modes. Its use can after some time turn into a “check engine” on the dashboard and an “emergency mode” of the engine. Although, of course, the price tag is tempting – 10,000-15,000 rubles.

Better and smarter emulators of European and Russian origin are more expensive. Sometimes for the device alone, without taking into account the cost of work, they ask for less than 30,000 rubles. Although such scenarios are more typical of “Adblue removal” on trucks.

For passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, the method of flashing the engine “brains” is more justified to lower the environmental class to Euro-5 or even Euro-4. The main danger of such chip tuning lies in the chance to run into a not very qualified specialist who will take cheap work for his work. The service of a professional can cost up to 20,000 rubles.

In any case, the costs of cheating SCR only at first glance seem rather high. If you think about it, the savings from such an operation are quite substantial. To be convinced of this, it is enough to remember that even Russian-made urea is sold at 60-70 rubles per liter. And we will generally be silent about the prices for the “native” European reagent, especially since it is spent much more intensively – 4-6% of fuel consumption.

Be that as it may, the cost of installing an emulator or disabling Adblue using chip tuning will generally pay for itself fairly quickly. The main thing is to choose a qualified specialist and, in the case of a “trick”, overcome the desire to save money by choosing a reliable device.
