The electronic system of the Russian Customs Service has received perhaps the greatest and most effective “outside influence” in recent times. The AvtoVzglyad portal reports almost paralysis in the clearance of goods imported into Russia.

The first reports of the collapse of the electronic customs system came from the Far East on the morning of April 10. Checkpoints between China and Russia “were on there”, as well as “right hand drive” clearance in Vladivostok. And the department has issued a vague statement about this.

“There are malfunctions in the functioning of the uniform information system of the customs authorities and in some cases it is difficult to carry out customs operations,” it says.

Customs attributed the problems to “external influence on IT resources”. Later it became known that on the western borders of Russia, at the border crossings with Estonia and Latvia, huge queues of trucks had gathered that wanted to enter the Russian Federation.

And it wasn’t until the first half of the day on April 11 that reports began to come in from the Far East that local customs officials appeared to be solving problems and trying to reboot their IT system after “external influence”. The near future will show how their efforts will be rewarded.

It will not surprise us if it later turns out that the computer system of the Russian FCS used software of American origin. Thanks to this, a software “bookmark” worked, which made it possible to immediately “freeze” all Russian entries.
