Why do car headlights keep burning out?
A normal car lamp of decent quality and manufacturer has been working for years. Good for decades. However, sometimes the process of choosing a headlight – far from always clean, fast and pleasant – has to be repeated almost every month. Is it the quality of the lamps on the shelves today, or is the problem elsewhere? The problem was solved by the AvtoVzglyad portal.

A new car has one important feature for which many motorists are willing to pay a tidy sum or endure a loan obligation – to fully function, one visit to a gas station per year is enough. A single diagnosis and a one-time replacement of all the little things is enough for 12 months.

With a used car, everything is completely different: of course, the good old “Japanese”, forged from samurai swords, will drive until they break into atoms from all-consuming corrosion, but everything burns and works wonderfully. There is always something that needs some attention. And at some point the irritation reaches its peak: take it away and give everything, except a new one. The process of “burnout”, as a rule, begins with light bulbs. Don’t think of it as a tautology.

I agree, once every ten years you can roll up your sleeves and replace a burnt out light bulb with incredible flexing of your joints. But if it happens monthly, turn off the lights. In times of scarcity and the influx of “counterfeits” that characterize it, it is customary to blame everything on the quality of the lamps. Like, it’s always on zero, thanks for shining a month. In three out of four cases, however, the cause lies elsewhere. A lamp that has burned out beforehand is just a consequence.

When performing the next (as always – unplanned) replacement, you should pay attention to the condition of the contacts: the connectors covered with a thick layer of green are the first reason for the premature failure of the “lighting element”. Oddly, contacts sometimes need to be cleaned. And after cleaning, take care of the following question: where does the “firewood” come from? In this sense – water, which caused oxidation at the terminals. If you look into the innards of the headlight, you can see with the naked eye fogging, dirt and even water spots right through the outer translucent layer. This is already a reason that can and must be combated.

Usually, having taken the flashlight out of the “nest”, we immediately see the “cause of all the problems” – there is a crack in the body. The best option is of course a replacement, but where are we and where are the new parts? Therefore, we remove it, bring it home, rinse it thoroughly – first with water and detergent, then with distilled water – dry it and seal the “hole”. Ideally – for soldering, all the more so that a simple Soviet soldering iron is also suitable. After going through all the procedures and looking at the result, we put it in the right place.

Well, then the test. A little more attention, a little more control. However, with a high degree of probability, the light bulbs will suddenly stop burning. Although branded, “from the last remnants in the warehouse since that time”, even the most affordable Chinese. Miracle, nothing else!
