Used “originals” or new “analogues”: which spare parts to buy for body repair

The best car is a new car, but we don’t have that luxury in the coming years, so we repair the existing one. Moreover, many will have not only decorative, but also quite functional body repair – involving welding and other laborious work. And where is it better to get spare parts: in a store or at a disassembly? The answer to this question is in the material of the AvtoVzglyad portal.

The new car market is just starting to pick up again: the number of cars for sale is negligible and dealers are “collecting the cream” by blatantly inflating prices. As a result, the majority go to the “secondary” or even “stay with their own”. But in both cases, as a rule, body repairs are required: cars in Russia rust and rot. And the older they are, the more corrosion prone places.

Accidents and craft repairs only exacerbate and speed up the process, but it’s not just about them. The reason is also that the regular factory paint layer – already thin – should only last five years according to the documents. In other words, a car that has celebrated its fifth birthday is doomed to go to the coachbuilder.

And now this moment comes – we go to the painter. There they go welding and painting. While sometimes a rusted part is easier and cheaper to replace, there’s nothing to cook and nowhere to go. And here a sharp question arises: buy an original spare part for disassembly or a new “analogue” in a store? We do not even take into account the “new and original” option – either it is not available, or the price is in line with the cost of the car.

However, no one tries to give away high-quality parts “for a hat full of crackers”, even in showdowns. Moreover: since 2022, the traders of “recycled materials” hang the price tags higher than for new analogues. For example, a new original door – which, however, will have to wait – for Mercedes-Benz crossovers will cost 150,000 rubles. The same, but without decals with a star with three rays on the packaging – for 80,000. When disassembling, they ask at least 110,000 rubles for a “beushka”.

We asked Vadim Adiev, head of the Union of Car Market Professionals, a professional picker and reseller, to comment on the situation. So he, choosing between an “analogue” and a used, but still “living” original spare part, always prefers the latter.

– Practice has shown that most, I do not speak for all, analogues are made of foil, which begins to bloom and rust in the very first Russian winter. They are thin, fragile, crumpled from minimal impact, and often cannot even be repaired – the metal burns out from welding. Painted, by the way, is also very mediocre. So I am ready to overpay for the part if it is removed from the car, and not buy a body “analogue”, even if it is much cheaper, – said Mr. Adiev.

It remains only to add that the showdowns have another important competitive advantage: they always have parts in stock, while many stores do not keep their warehouses and only look for the right spare part after the customer’s money reaches the cashier.
