In the new generation of the flagship BMW 7-Series sedan, the model has an all-electric version of the BMW i7. Deprived of an internal combustion engine, an electric car could not be completely unresponsive, therefore, by order of the German automaker, a special sound background was developed for the novelty.

Moreover, this work was entrusted not to full-time BMW engineers, but to the two-time Oscar winner for the soundtrack to The Lion King and Dune Dani Villeneuve, film composer Hans Zimmer.

The famous musician has prepared a whole palette of sounds that accompany the owner of the BMW i7 throughout the trip. The “holistic sound world,” as the automaker describes, includes everything from a welcome horn and a ready-to-drive signal, from sounds confirming the response of an electric vehicle to driver input, to an acoustic landscape combined with the gigantic 8K screen of the BMW Theater Screen system.

In the menu section of the on-board electronics My Modes in the i7 electric car, you can find Personal, Sport, Efficient, Expressive and Relax sound scripts. Each of them depends on the position of the accelerator pedal and the traffic situation, and Expressive and Relax are additionally tied to the dashboard graphics and interior lighting.

Personal mode is described by the company as “emphasizing the progressive nature of the model”, Sport is intended to indicate the “powerful and pronounced acoustic presence” of the 544-horsepower power plant, and Expressive is described as “a very lively and dynamic sound.”

Relax creates the most relaxing environment, but in Efficient all extraneous sounds are turned off – the owner hears only sound messages directly related to the operation of the electric vehicle systems.
