What to check when changing the oil in the service
Spring is the time to maintain your “iron horses”. Many entrust the procedure to services, while few people know that even such a routine operation as re-greasing requires special control from the car owner. Otherwise, problems may arise in the future. The AvtoVzglyad portal will tell you what exactly to look at.

Many mechanics pour in a little lubricant before installing the oil filter. The explanation is simple. For example, if the consumable is dry, the engine will run out of oil for the first time after starting. That is, it breaks faster. It’s a delusion.

The fact is that in Soviet times, lubricants were more viscous. That’s why they slowed down. And now even “mineral water” is more technologically advanced. Therefore, do not allow such an old-fashioned method to be used. Ask to see the filter housing first. It describes in detail the procedure to replace it. For starters, just a drop wets the rubber o-ring. Failure to do so may result in leaks.

But if you fill the “glass” to the top, you can make yourself a problem. Recall that in the vast majority of cars the filter is installed at an angle or even horizontally. This means that the contents will certainly not only spill and stain clothing, but also get on the drive belt or on the timing rollers, for example. This causes the “drive” to just pop off the guides. If he also touches the timing at the same time, then serious problems cannot be avoided. After all, a break in the drive is fraught with a meeting of valves and pistons. This is “capital”.

After that, make sure that the master lays the consumable with his hands, and does not tighten with long keys. Otherwise, it may rotate and damage the thread. The usual tightening torque is 20 Nm (this is also indicated on the bodywork). This means that only a little effort is required.

Next, we trace such a trifle as a washer under the drain plug. It should not be changed at all, which will also lead to leakage. After all, even if the spare part is made of metal, it is still disposable. The soft metal is crushed during installation, ensuring the tightness of the entire system. Reuse is not allowed. A leak can be so severe that the lubricant level drops to a critical level. The terrible consequences of this have been described above.

Well, in the end, the master has to remove the residual oil around the filler neck. So a thick layer of dirt will not form around it, which can accidentally get into the cylinder head.
