Max Park is now 21 years old. He has been interested in Rubik’s cubes since childhood, when doctors diagnosed him with autism and advised his parents on choosing activities for the development of fine motor skills. The parents chose the Rubik’s Cube, among other things, and Park was instantly hooked on the game. “There was a time when Max couldn’t even open a water bottle, but he showed interest in solving a Rubik’s cube”, they say. His passion for building blocks has also brought him into an environment of like-minded people who help develop his social and communication skills.

Park was previously known among lovers of Rubik’s cubes, because he is considered America’s leading “speed cubist” – these are the people who combine the cube for speed. Park, in particular, holds the world records for collecting large cubes 4×4, 5×5, 6×6 and 7×7 – almost all of them, in fact.

He needs some time to examine the cube before putting it together, but then his fingers move so fast that an outside observer doesn’t have time to follow them.

According to the Guinness World Records website, Park’s previous fastest individual time was 3.63 seconds, making him second only to Yusheng Du. When speedcubing master Erik Ackersdijk broke the singles record with a 7x7x7 cube in a time of 1 minute 40 seconds, he described it as the most impressive thing he had ever seen. “The record will probably hold for a while,” Ackersdijk said at the time. But he was wrong – Park beat him by 1 minute 35 seconds in 2022.
