Musk plans to combine Tesla and Neuralink technologies to create robotic limbs that can be controlled by a special chip implanted directly into the recipient’s brain.
According to Musk, this combination of advanced technologies will allow amputated individuals to regain their mobility and live without restrictions, including activities such as walking, running, jumping, swimming and performing all daily tasks.
It would be a real miracle to have prosthetics that are not inferior to or even exceed natural limbs for people who have lost their limbs.
– said Elon Musk.
However, it is important to recognize that these are only plans and aspirations at the moment. The realization of this cybernetic body depends on the success of ongoing trials of the Neuralink brain chip, which will be the main component of the future project. Currently, there are no prototypes or developments that make the emergence of such a cyber object a possibility far from near reality.
It is worth starting with the fact that at the moment Tesla and Neuralink are not able to produce such advanced prostheses. Tesla only started creating a humanoid robot in 2021. In addition, the company continues to take the first steps in the development of actuators for machine limbs.
Meanwhile, Neuralink received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in May to begin human clinical trials of its brain-machine interface (BMI) chip. However, the tech company has yet to prove the practicality of the device.
It does not make sense to discuss the seriousness of such a statement by Elon Musk at the moment, because even if this is possible in theory, the current level of development of human technologies does not allow the implementation of such an ambitious plan.
