The basis of the new fuel is an ionic liquid, a form of liquefied salt. It has a lower melting point and lower vapor pressure than table salt. Chemists also changed its formula by replacing chlorine with perchlorate.

When scientists tried to ignite the ionic liquid with the flame of a lighter, it failed to catch fire. Then, when they applied voltage along with the fire of the lighter, the liquid ignited. And as soon as I turned off the current, the flame went out. Scientists repeated the process several times, observing the same result.
