What did they find?

Archaeologists determined that the unique treasure trove of gold jewelry dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Most likely it is connected with the historical events of the Hetmanate times.

As Vyacheslav Baranov, an employee of the Archaeological Institute, told ZAXID.NET, the hiding place was discovered on the site of the ancient Belotserki fortress, which was an important object of defense of the Cossacks in those days. The castle buildings were located on the mountain, while people mostly lived below.

The total collection consists of: 12 gold and mother-of-pearl beads with a total weight of approximately 28 grams. They were found hidden in a small ceramic container.

The Hetman’s treasure is an extremely rare find of great scientific and social importance. It shows the significant development of the material culture of the Ukrainian population, emphasizes the high level of jewelry art of the Kazakh state,

Archaeologists say that such finds are a great chance because during the struggle for independence “Most such treasures were melted down at that time.”. Presumably, the container with valuables was hidden in front in anticipation of some kind of danger.

All objects have been transferred to the funds of the Archaeological Museum for safekeeping and will complete the exhibition. However, it is not yet said when the works will be shown to the public.

Other objects from the Cossack period were also found in the same cultural layer: bone inlays with the image of a knight, coins from the Polish-Lithuanian period and the Moscow state, as well as many Cossack pipes and ornaments.

Artifacts from the Russian period were also found in the same place: fragmented ceramics, glass bracelets, spinning wheels and bronze fibulae. A grave from the same period has also been investigated, but details of its remains are not yet available.
