Last May, Brock, who was three and a half hours from home to participate in an organized expedition, resorted to using old, broken equipment when his metal detector was not working properly.

Brock believes this is the largest nugget found on British soil since the previous one. the largest find weighed 54 grams.

Most amateur metal detectors have been operating for decades, hoping to find valuable treasures or artifacts. The hobby has been growing in popularity in recent years; Minelab, a metal detector manufacturer, reported 30% more sales in 2020 than the previous year and 18% more sales than the year before that.
