In the third video from the Starlink series, we check the quality of Elon Musk’s satellite internet. We’ve tested and shown how Starlink handles large file uploads and downloads, its latency in games, and its ability to cater for an entire family with multiple devices connected to the internet at the same time. All this on a cloudy day, which already answers the question that many users left in the previous video: how does Starlink work on a cloudy day?
There are multiple scenarios! We are going to download the game while watching Netflix on TV, Youtube on laptop, playing games on PC and making a VoIP call on mobile. We also ran a speed test with Speedtest and, as a bonus, answered questions about the power and range of the router, as well as gave a verdict on whether it’s worth it and in which scenarios Starlink is a good alternative.

Starlink is a proposal to spread the Internet around the world without geographic restrictions and the need for local infrastructure. Just take the kit with the antenna, electricity and mobile phone to set up so you can connect to the thousands of satellites already in orbit.
So far, 2,500 satellites have been launched and more than 2,300 are in operation, but SpaceX’s idea is to launch more than 40,000 satellites to cover as much territory as possible. These satellites follow predetermined routes at a distance of 550 km from Earth, covering (until then) some areas of the planet. The more satellites, the more and better coverage. Because of this, SpaceX launches satellites every month, and by early 2023 there will be more than 4,000 in orbit.
So how does an antenna work? The user buys the necessary equipment, mainly a kit with an antenna and a router connected to a power outlet. Once everything is connected, you are done with a simple setup and are ready to use the Internet.
The Starlink starter kit costs about 4500 reais, and the monthly fee is approximately 744 reais. The price is the same as the price in the United States (tax difference) and Starlink tries to make this clear on invoices, detailing everything. Almost 40% of the cost is taxation, and we show this in the video.
This could be the future of the Internet, as Starlink has what it takes to be the project that will speed up the world’s connectivity – as remote areas of little commercial interest to operators end up lacking sufficient infrastructure to keep the population connected to the Internet.
With the introduction of the full Starlink network, SpaceX hopes to be able to democratize Internet access with an experience similar to fiber optic cable in places where this type of service is not available. Thus, the company offers a quality solution for rural areas, remote communities, remote areas in large cities, and even on flights and cruises.
In Brazil, a partnership was recently announced that will connect Starlink to 19,000 public schools. The mere fact of connecting the Internet to remote schools is already an impressive proposition here in the country. Access to technology is widely discussed, but unfortunately there is still no concrete planning and plans for this to happen.
Access to the Internet from the earliest stages of life has a huge impact on human development. The stronger the structure given to the population, the more they are able to learn and cooperate to advance the technology itself.
