Football knows no borders. Not even kilometres. This week’s Eurocup in Germany is a clear example of this. While the competition pits teams from the old continent against each other, there are fans who enjoy the games from far beyond the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and even the Urals. In fact, several videos have been circulating online showing a crowd of passionate La Roja fans celebrating their goals in Ambon, in the Moluccas, Indonesia, more than 13,500 kilometres from Madrid.
And his is not an obscure or modest hobby. They celebrate the national team’s victories in the streets with La Roja T-shirts and red flags.
A celebration in Spain? This is the question that everyone who sees the videos uploaded to X, TikTok and Instagram by users such as Niporwifi, Tanjungassan and even the EFE news agency asks themselves. In the recordings, you can see dozens of young people riding motorcycles waving Spanish flags, hanging their rojigualdas as capes or proudly wearing the La Roja shirt. However, when you look at details such as signs and license plates, you realize that the images do not show any Spanish city.
Its origins are far away. To be more precise, very far away. The video distributed by the EFE agency was shot in Jayapura. And through X or TikTok, the pieces that its authors have placed in the Gulf of Ambon are circulating. Both points are in Indonesia, more than 10,000 kilometers from Spain. The reason why the protagonists of the videos wear the colors of Spain is as surprising as the distance, or even more surprising: what they do with the flags is to celebrate La Roja’s victories in the European Cup.

“I have been following Spain since 2008”. The videos are so amazing that they have spread on networks and media across the country. And that makes sense. They show not just a group of football fans enjoying La Roja matches. The young people of Ambon or Jayapura celebrate the victories of Luis de la Fuente’s team with real enthusiasm, freely, riding their motorcycles with flags like capes, waving red and yellow shirts and showing off the T-shirts of the Spanish team.
“I have been a Spain fan since 2008. When I saw how well they played, I decided to support the team until now,” said Buyung Hadi, one of the youngsters who showed his passion for La Roja from the remote streets of Indonesia. He shares with EFE. In his case, he says he was already celebrating the victories in the group stage: “When the match was over, I saw a crowd with motorbikes and flags and I joined them.”
Spain fans indonesia. The videos are not the only evidence of the passion that the Spanish national team has generated in the Southeast Asian country. There is a Facebook group called “Spain fans Indonesia (Red Fury)” with around 18,300 members that has been recording intense activity. For example, one recent post praises Lamine Yamal’s behavior with his family or recalls La Roja’s victories throughout the competition.

La Roja fascination… and more. The Spanish team is not the only team that is causing excitement in Indonesia. A few days ago, the newspaper Jakarta Globe A report published that “thousands of fans” of the Dutch national team took to the streets of Ambon to celebrate the team’s victory over Romania in the round of 16. The image was very similar to that left by La Fuente team followers, with fans on motorbikes and cars decorated with flags… only this time they were orange.
