Microsoft today announced in a blog post that Windows Insiders who have chosen the Beta and Dev distribution channels can now download Windows 11 Build 22593 via Windows Update. This build includes bug fixes, File Explorer improvements, and the new Microsoft Journal app. The bad news is that support for tabbed browsing in File Explorer, which was officially confirmed by the company this week, is still not enabled by default.

According to Microsoft’s announcement, Windows 11 build 22593 adds a new home page to the operating system’s File Explorer. This home page displays items pinned to the Quick Access Toolbar, items marked as favorites, and recent items such as documents and images. The company has also confirmed that Recent Items and Favorites can appear in File Explorer search results even if they are not local files.

Also new in this build is the Microsoft Journal app. The app, which started as an experimental project for Microsoft Garage, is now available from the pen menu, as shown in the image below. If it is not installed, it will be downloaded from the Microsoft Store if the user clicks on its icon in the pen menu:

For users not using the Memory Integrity feature in the Windows Security app, the operating system will now warn the user so they can enable it. When enabled, this feature, located under Device Security > Core Isolation in the Windows Security app, helps prevent malicious code from infiltrating certain types of processes in the operating system:

In addition to the news mentioned above, Windows 11 build 22593 also includes fixes for several bugs. The list of bugs fixed includes one causing slowdown when the user reorders icons on the taskbar, one causing the taskbar to disappear when the user uses full screen search, one causing the home page to load slowly from Explorer, and one causing a freeze. black screen that appears when Auto HDR enabled games are played in full screen mode.
