Survey results
The survey revealed some very interesting results.
- Gen Z respondents are much more likely to say they enjoy driving (77%).
- Millennials reported the highest number of DIY repairs at 34%.
- Interestingly, 32% of Boomer drivers and 30% of Millennials said they already own or have owned a “classic enthusiast car” (an older car from previous years, often in need of repair and restoration).
The next generation of car enthusiasts is here, creating a dynamic marketplace for us to help enthusiasts preserve, buy, sell and enjoy their special cars.
– says Hagerty CEO and Chairman McKeel Hagerty, who conducted the study.
He adds that Gen Z isn’t just playing car video games, watching cars on YouTube or creating related content on social media, they’re also “finding ways to participate in the collector car community.”
The research reveals that there is a certain gap in society, where many perceive the younger generation as “hermits who hate driving”, but their real excitement about the subject is quite different. For example, there are enough people among the whiz generation who are interested in old (and even vintage) cars. 39% of those surveyed cited YouTube as their main source of information about classic cars, while Instagram came in slightly lower at 38%.
This is supported by the fact that it is “the most common car asked about for insurance coverage by Gen Z enthusiasts.” Release year of Mazda Miata 1990-1998“. This is probably because young people are often poorer and also exposed to modern environmental trends in the long-term use of objects, recycling, responsible reuse and other issues.
