The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reported that a SpaceX-31 rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral on November 4, and on board was an experimental sample of the winners of the All-Ukrainian school space experiments competition SSEP. Which schoolchildren’s project is worth flying into space?

The Ukrainian team participated in the 18th SSEP mission with the support of the “Nova Ukraine” aid fund. The name of the team’s experiment is “Obtaining biomedical hydrogels in microgravity conditions.” Its aim is to investigate the possibility of creating hydrogels that can be used for medical purposes, especially in conditions of weightlessness.

This is already the third school experiment from Ukraine that will be studied in space under SSEP (Student Spaceflight Experiments Programme).

What is SSEP?

SSEP is a unique and comprehensive program for the development of scientific and STEAM education aimed at training the next generation of scientists and inventors. Winners of the SSEP competition will have the opportunity to send true microgravity research mini-labs to the ISS aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

The Junior Academy of Sciences joined the SSEP program in 2021. Previously, participation in SSEP missions was only open to students from the USA. Currently, the project of students of the National Academy of Sciences flew into space for the third time,
