After FCC approval (FCC/Federal Communications Commission), Starlink Maritime finally become a reality. This method will offer a connection to a niche that needs a satellite connection in ships, aircraft and/or boats. The kit will be sold for 10 thousand US dollars (~ 52 thousand Brazilian reais), billed monthly 5 thousand US dollars (~ 26 thousand Brazilian reais).
This offer is for a very specific segment of consumers who are generally willing to pay more given the features involved. One of the reasons for the high cost pointed out by Elon MuskCEO SpaceX and billionaire space exploration enthusiast, is that the components reinforced to be able to resist unfavourable conditionsas storms, strong winds and other expected issues.
Musk expanded on his argument and stated that “SpaceX paid 150 thousand US dollars monthly (~ BRL 788 thousand) for much worse communications on their ships.” Although significantly expensive, the offer should be cheaper and faster than other similar alternatives.

Maritime Starlink has limitations
Despite the statement in Starlink Maritime Official Pagewhich “provides Internet connectivity to the world’s most remote locations”, currently (as of the date of this article) operating in the following locations: United States (excluding Alaska), Europe (With exception most Norway, Sweden as well as Finland), Australia, Brazil, Chilesignificant portion South Australia and beyond New Zealand.
Expected that starlink increase coverage later this year. The main purpose of this service is precisely to offer high speed as well as low latency in regions that were previously inaccessible to those who needed the Internet. Regardless of the problems faced, new users around the world are sticking to SpaceX’s offerand technology is slowly evolving.
