Laser mapping showed pyramids in the Amazon Basin in southwestern Bolivia. “Earth mounds” are up to 22 meters long and are “hidden” among forest mounds.

According to the five scientists responsible for the discovery, it is believed that such pyramids were built by humans. Kasarabwho lived in the region around 500 BC. They “disappeared” around 1400.

Another interesting point is that the forested hills that hide the buildings today were already part of the city center with three times the size of the Vatican. Original publication of the discovery in a scientific journal naturesuggests that the pyramids were the main civil ceremonial centers.

During the 20th century it was believed that the Amazon region was never populous and that the Amazonian peoples were organized into small nomadic tribes. A recent discovery confirms the change in this thinking and shows that the region was a haven for advanced societies before the arrival of Europeans.

How were the pyramids discovered?

The discovery of this supposed urban organization of the Casarabe people was made possible by a technology called To deal with. It allows you to remotely, usually from the air, map the area and create a 3D image of the analyzed location.
