A 12-year-old boy from Pernambuco was certified by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) after completing the assignment. discovery of two asteroids. With the help of a computer, Raul Ayres managed to access images from the American Space Agency’s mega-telescope located in Hawaii (USA).

According to him, the asteroids were between Mars and Jupiter, but had to pass the rite of confirmation by NASA itself. Opening the images to the public is part of the North American agency’s program. More than 13,000 people have already taken part in it, helping to imagine the location of several asteroids in space.

“I was very happy that day, I showed it to my parents and they were very happy too. I did a lot for science and was pleased with it. It’s good because you’re having a great time and still helping science a lot,” said the young people from Pernambuco to Jornal Hodge from Globo.

With the discovery, Raul Aires joined the list of Brazilians who, even from afar, have already helped to detect various objects in space. According to the report, science buffs in Brazil have already helped find 1,737 asteroids as part of a project proposed by NASA.

“Asteroids are rock fragments that were not used to form planets. In other words, these fragments are the remains of the material from which the planets were formed,” said Filipe Monteiro, an astrophysicist and researcher at the National Observatory.

The discovery was made in the asteroid belt

Two asteroids located between Mars and Jupiter in Pernambuco are in a region known as the asteroid belt. As the name suggests, it is a circular area containing several irregularly shaped objects that give the belt its name.

The discovery of these asteroids has several main goals, such as finding out their composition and performing an analysis to see if they are on a collision course with Earth. Although there is still no further information about the discovery of Pernambucano, it is expected to be classified into some of the currently existing categories.

This is because asteroids in the asteroid belt fall into three different categories: carbonaceous or C-type asteroids, silicate or S-type asteroids, and metallic or M-type asteroids.[35] There are other types of asteroids, but they are very few.
