As noted on the Telegram channel of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, anyone can be affected by hackers. In the zone of increased danger – civil servants, military personnel, critical infrastructure workers who can become points of access to state information systems.

What should I do

To minimize risks for yourself, we recommend:

  • Change all weak passwords for important accounts if you have used them before. How to do it, read our material.
  • Change passwords if you haven’t done so in a long time.
  • Install all necessary software updates on your computer and smartphone.
  • Scan your devices with an antivirus. Make sure you install it if you haven’t already.
  • Remove any hacked pirated programs you have installed before – these may contain vulnerabilities and pose a danger to your computer.
  • Delete Russian programs if you are still using them.

  • Make backup copies of important documents, files so you can restore them in case they are lost.

  • Set up two-factor authentication wherever possible.

  • Do not download files from unknown, questionable sources.

  • Note that links to phishing sites may be disguised as holiday greetings, lottery winnings, or letters from stores. Do not follow links from strangers or even friends.

  • When receiving such letters, pay special attention to the sender’s e-mail, because hackers often attack from addresses that are almost identical to the addresses of official sources and differ by only one letter.

The ministry also reminds of the necessity. protect the privacy of personal data and important information about yourself. Do not disclose your passwords, pin codes, card and phone numbers, secret words, addresses, and anything else that could potentially result in loss of money or access to sites and services. Do not participate in surveys that require you to provide confidential information or sensitive financial data (card PIN, CVV code, etc.). If you see information about “financial assistance for Independence Day”, “additional payments for vacation” or similar promises, Be sure to check the official sources of the authorities.. Do not trust questionable Telegram channels or news sites that you hear for the first time. Phishing attacks are often hidden behind such messages.
