On September 2, Ukraine withdrew from the OIAD membership. In addition to the Ministry of Education, Taras Melnychuk, the permanent representative of the Council of Ministers and the head of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary faction of the People’s Servant in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, announced this.

Ukrainian scientists condemned the inaction of scientists from OIAD

In the Ministry of Education and Culture, the message of the Ukrainian scientists that they condemned the calm and inaction of the OIAD scientists against the tragic events that took place in Ukraine due to the armed invasion of our country by Russia, and decided to terminate their membership of the organization.

What is the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research?

It is an international intergovernmental research organization located in the city of Dubna, Moscow Region. The organization has been operating since 1956, its founders are 18 states, including Ukraine. The main directions of OIAD’s theoretical and experimental research are nuclear physics, the physics of elementary particles, and the study of the condensed state of matter.

The day before, Poland terminated its membership of the OIAD. However, there is still:

Ukraine will not pay its membership debt to the Russians

Fees are required to stay in the establishment. But Ukraine will not repay its debt, especially the restructured debt that arose during the state’s membership in the United Institute.

Ukraine has withdrawn from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, whose headquarters are located on the territory of the aggressor country. The fulfillment of financial obligations for the payment of debt, including the restructured debt, for the membership of Ukraine, which has the status of a participant in the budget of the United Institute, is suspended.

Meanwhile, in March, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) suspended Russia’s observer status due to the war in Ukraine. Also, the organization stopped cooperation with Russian institutes.
