famous telescope Hubble recorded the interaction between two neighboring galaxies. OUR NASA released an image last Friday (07) of the phenomenon described by the agency as “prolonged galactic interaction”. The pair of galaxies captured by Hubble is known as Arp-Madore 608-333.

“While they appear serene and unruffled, the two slightly distort each other through a mutual gravitational interaction that disturbs and distorts both galaxies.”explains NASA.

Recording the interaction between galaxies was made during Hubble switched to targeting new capture targets. According to the US space agency, there is a fraction of the time, about 2 to 3%, that is not used to acquire new images, it is during this time interval that the telescope changes its goal.

Thus, the newly released image of the pair of galaxies was taken by a snapshot program that serves to provide astronomers with as much information from the telescope as possible, also relying on this data collected between longer observations. This type of entry can also help NASA find other phenomena and decide, for example, to observe them longer.

Hubble survival

In operation since 1990 Hubble telescope may receive a new mission in the future. OUR NASA and SpaceXcompany led by Elon Musk, are studying ways to use equipment located 540 kilometers from Earth. The goal is to avoid wear and tear on the historic telescope and thus slightly extend the life of the device. However, plans for Hubble have yet to be determined.
