According to the American Petroleum Institute (API), the owner of an internal combustion engine car takes an average of two minutes to refuel the vehicle. The new eTechnology hybrid system almost halves that time – fast charging could play the most important role in society’s acceptance of electric cars. Another advantage, according to Morand, is that eTechnology provides much longer battery life than conventional lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles today.

According to the initiative, during testing, the prototype of the eTechnology solution – three modules of 2.4 kWh with a voltage of 400 V each – was able to charge 80% in 72 seconds, 98% in 120 seconds and 100% in 100 seconds. 2.5 minutes (900 A/360 kW). Does the technology really work?

Yes, but there is one but. First, according to Morand, the company tested more than 50,000 charge cycles of the eTechnology prototype, which is far more than traditional lithium-ion batteries can withstand. The company also claims that the technology is effective even at extremely low and high temperatures, which distinguishes it favorably from conventional batteries for electric vehicles.

When the technology hits the market

Morand was founded by former F1 driver and team manager Benoit Morand, who was instrumental in the development of the Hope Racing Oreco 01 Hybrid prototype. The company’s goal is to bring the technologies used in motor racing into everyday solutions.
