OUR Apple continues to be increasingly associated with gender issues. This time the company released an update for iPhones which includes a “pregnant man” emoji as well as several other gender-neutral cartoons.
Apple released the iOS 15.4 update at the end of March, adding pregnant emojis as well as gender-neutral “man with crown” emojis that accompany the king and queen designs. At that time, Apple added a total of 37 emoji.
Test Shows Apple’s New Model Easily Outperforms Some Windows Competitors
The tech company’s initiative was greeted with approval by the LGBTQ+ community. In an interview with Insider, a spokesman for the inclusive LGBTQ+ family organization, PFLAG, called the emoji “a completely new way of expressing yourself“.
On the other hand, social networks were divided by the action. The more conservative community was shocked by the addition. “I don’t have enough words”, wrote British journalist Piers Morgan, known for transphobic messages. However, in response to the ridicule of the emoji, political correspondent Tom Hardwood tweeted: “If you don’t like the pregnant man emoji, maybe don’t use it?“.
It’s worth remembering that this isn’t the first step Apple is taking to make its emoji more inclusive and neutral. In 2019, the company released dozens of them with deaf and blind symbols, as well as androgynous variants of each of the human emojis.
Despite criticism from competitors at the launch of App Tracking Transparency, Apple’s feature of allowing you to track your customers if they want to is lauded in recent months. A recent report by the analytics platform Adjust, published by the website 9to5Mac, indicated that 25% of respondents chose to use it. In May 2021, this figure was 16%.
The program is available for iPhone and iPad and allows app creators to track user activity to receive personalized ads similar to internet cookies. The statistic is even higher for gaming, with 30% of ears capable of tracking – rising to 75% in popular games.
ATT arrived with iOS 14.5 last year and has been criticized by competitors like Facebook. It didn’t look very promising at first, as according to the same survey, only 4% of US users used it in the first month.
One reason that may explain this increase is the freedom Apple gives developers to “convince” their customers to allow themselves to be tracked. Take a free app as an example: it can warn those who use it that personalized ads can help keep it free — and digging in your pocket has always been a strong argument.
