Childhood is perhaps the strangest and most mysterious period of human life. How do babies see the world? How does it perceive? What attracts their attention, how does their brain work in which situation?
A lot of research has been done over the years on countless questions like this, and it continues to be done. However, since the research is done with babies, it’s not that simple. for example examining a baby’s brain by imaging it on an MRIIt is very restrictive because it is difficult for an awake baby to remain still or to perform desired commands. Fortunately, scientists have found answers to many questions despite everything.
At first everything was blurry, then we started to see
While our eyes can see functionally in the first few months after birth, our brains don’t yet did not have the knowledge and skills to process the data. So our vision was limited, but it started to improve over time.
Although we can select faces for the first two to three days depending on the distance We also couldn’t select faces that were more than a foot away. and we saw blurry, we couldn’t distinguish colors precisely, and we saw in shades of black and white.
Within a month, we started selecting faces that were farther away, albeit blurry. However, we were not yet very far in distinguishing colors. Our vision was dominated by shades of gray, black and white..
Colors began to enter our lives…
By the second month, we were able to choose strong reds and greens, albeit weak ones. Mainly Even if we see it in black and white or sepia tones We could distinguish that some objects in our view had different colors. While we got a little better at seeing distant objects, we continued to see things blurry from a distance.
Although in the first 6 months we begin to see almost as much as an adult, Up to 12 months, this process continued as the blur diminished, allowing further objects to be selected and the colors to become more pronounced, and by 1 year of age we were able to select all objects, people and colors in a room.
Our eyes were sensitive to light, occasionally disorienting…
Like a newborn baby our eyes were extremely sensitive to light. So while we weren’t as inclined to open our eyes in bright light, we could be braver and open our eyes in low light.
Of course not yet developed. because of our eye muscles from time to time our eyes can be disoriented and squint. But this was a situation that was considered normal until the muscles developed.
