With the addition of this new engine, produced General Electric Aviationsubsidiary General Electricabout 10,000 kg of thrust will be added, which will be critical for the X-59 to fly faster than the speed of sound, as well as to reach an altitude of about 55,000 feet (16,764 meters).

Testing will begin sometime in 2025, and with data collected during flight, the new technology is expected to demonstrate that supersonic flights are possible that do not produce a sonic boom, but only a small amount of noise, such as the initial shock when it takes off. .

If the test is successful, regulators will revise the rules for the maximum speed that aircraft can reach when flying over regions, and this will significantly change the time of commercial travel.

If that happens, regulators could revise rules for aircraft speed over Earth, which could even cut travel times even for commercial flights.

The X-59 engine was manufactured by General Electric Aviation, a subsidiary of General Electric. According to an update released by NASA, the engine will reach very high speeds and altitudes of around 55,000 feet (16,764 meters).

The QueSST program will end in 2027 after data collected from test flights between North American communities is analyzed and submitted for regulatory approval. “The hope is to allow regulators to consider rules based on aircraft altitude rather than arbitrary speed.” NASA said.
