YouTube partners with Google to use AI to improve video descriptions

Google DeepMind announced this Wednesday (24) a partnership with YouTube to implement the Flamingo visual language model on the platform. THEREHelps create metadata and generate descriptions for YouTube Shortsto make it easier for users to find videos.

Flamingo’s visual language model creates metadata so that the YouTube system can distribute Shorts in a way that is more in line with the user’s preferences. “This Flamingo model — the ability to understand these videos and give us descriptive text — is very, very valuable in helping our systems that are already looking for this metadata,” Sherman told The Verge. The automatically generated description will comply with company protocols and platform policies, which will avoid problems when creating text.
