Earlier this year, Raytheon signed a $1.15 billion contract to supply the AIM-120D-3 and C-8 missiles. Prior to that, in August 2022, the company received a $972 million contract providing software and hardware updates for AIM-120C8 missiles.
Research, development and operational tests of the missile included its use on fourth and fifth generation aircraft of the US Navy and Air Force.
“Flight tests of the new AIM-120D-3 missile showed improvements in the missile’s hardware and software capabilities. I am glad that our fighters will be armed with this latest version of the AIM-120 missile.‘, said Colonel Sean Bradley, head of the AMRAAM program.
The AIM-120D-3 is the most advanced variant of the AMRAAM missile developed under the Form, Fit, Function Refresh program. As part of the program, missile equipment is modernized, which ensures continuous improvement of the software. The range of the new generation missile should reach 180 kilometers. Source
