Israeli minister’s statements indicate ‘genocidal intent’: UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) condemned this Sunday that statements by an Israeli minister about launching a nuclear attack on the Gaza Strip raise “serious concerns about genocidal intent” in the Palestinian enclave.

“These statements constitute a violation of international law, as well as incitement to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law, such as war crimes, and raise serious concerns about genocidal intent,” the UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement. release.

He also called the words of Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu “shameful and unacceptable” and expressed the country’s “categorical rejection” of “threats of using nuclear weapons.”

As The Times of Israel reported today, Eliyahu assured that launching an atomic bomb against the Gaza Strip could be one of the options in the war that has pitted Israel against the Islamist group Hamas since October 7.

Asked on Radio Kol Berama whether an atomic bomb should be dropped on the Palestinian enclave, the minister of the Jewish Power party, the most far-right party in the government, replied: “That is one possibility.”

Statements by Eliyahu, known for his far-right positions, such as his proposal to annex the occupied West Bank territory to Israel, forced Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately disavow him.

His words also sparked a wave of condemnation in the Arab world, with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and Kuwait expressing concern over what they see as a nuclear threat.

The United Arab Emirates normalized its relations with Israel in 2020 as part of the Abraham Accords, sponsored by the administration of former US President Donald Trump. This move was met with criticism from the Arab population, who considered it a blow to the Palestinian cause.

However, Abu Dhabi has sharply criticized Israel’s response to multiple attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7 and has hardened its tone towards the Israeli government.
