Elesky and hate on the internet

I think it’s appropriate to start this news by saying that, in my opinion, Elesky is one of those people in the content creator ecosystem that is very difficult to label negatively. You may or may not like their content and that is perfectly legitimate, but their attitude in live shows, videos, social media posts, public events, etc. shows us a person who always tries to carry a positive message, who treats his community with great love and never fails to smile. Short version: I find Elesky adorable and one of the best and most talented characters in the streaming ecosystem.

Piano virtuoso and talent and video game lover, Elesky has been delighting his followers for years with interpretations of many of the most well-known themes in the gaming world, although he is not averse to other music as well. In this regard, I think what is particularly noteworthy is what happened when an audience member asked him to play Smells Like Teen Spirit at a live performance. In these days The Pokemon Twitch Cup 2023 is happening, one of those wildly popular events on Twitch that brings together some of the most relevant characters in the world of streamers. In this case, it’s a friendly Pokémon event with no prizes or anything like that. Play for fun and to entertain the audience. No one is playing for anything, the game is an end in itself. And Elesky is participating in this event. Or, well said, I should say I attended.

During its development, in one of the action rounds, Elesky faced Ibai Llanos and won, in a shorter confrontation than originally planned due to some organizational problems. I remember again that we are talking about a friendly event, between colleagues who have (generally) good relations, or at least cordial ones. But none of this matters in terms of toxicity. Aftermath? Well, the ones you can already imagine:

Apparently a part (I think a small but very noisy one) of fandom de Ibai felt greatly hurt by this defeat and therefore They decided to attack in a nasty way (and of course from anonymity) to Eleska, one of the most positive people in the creator ecosystem. And they did it so cruelly that they could hurt, they could make a person whose only sin was defeating an opponent in a friendly competition.

The problem of hate on Twitch (although it’s actually quite widespread on the internet) it’s nothing new. Some actions have been taken, such as the Twitch strike in September 2021 (which was supported by Elesky among others), but we are far from seeing a remedy in this sense, we see hatred running rampant on the platform, a problem with a very difficult solution, but one that must be attacked , so that events like the one I am dedicating this news to do not become commonplace.

?Maybe it’s time to “rethink” all online public spaces (social networks, platforms, etc.)? Well, most likely yes. Freedom of speech should not be curtailed, but can it really protect against a gratuitous and malicious attack? A fundamental right cannot subvert another right of the same leveland platforms should put more effort into not becoming swamps. Swamps where you can hurt people who deserve the exact opposite, people like Elesky.
