Apple is currently working on foldable iPhone concepts. If the prototypes meet the high standards, they are expected to hit the market in 2026.

In the middle of last year, Apple announced the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, its first VR glasses equipped with high-resolution cameras that enable an AR experience. Although all the attention has been focused on these long-awaited VR glasses lately, Apple seems to be working in the background on its next project: foldable iPhones. The current prototypes closely resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip due to their clamshell design. It is speculated that the foldable iPhone will be launched in 2026 if the prototypes meet the high standards.

Prototype phase

A report from The Information reveals that Apple is currently working on foldable iPhone concepts. The brand follows in the footsteps of Samsung, which is already many steps ahead in the field of foldable smartphones. According to the report, the foldable iPhone prototypes would be made in a clamshell style, each of which can be folded horizontally. Apple is also said to have been working on foldable concepts where the display is on the outside, but Apple engineers couldn’t create anything shatterproof.

Apple’s prototypes would be no thicker than current iPhones, a difficult task given the battery size and display components. If Apple can produce successful prototypes, the foldable iPhones are expected to launch in 2026.

The costs for such foldable smartphones are correspondingly high due to the difficult construction. If you know that Samsung’s foldable devices are around 1,000 euros and well above, Apple will also be in the same trend (or more).
