We’ve been waiting months for the iPad Pro 2024 launch, but with a specific date and time since Apple announced the Let Loose event two weeks ago. We did a final screening exercise yesterday to try and figure out what they have in store for us today. And as it happens in these cases, was a big part of successalthough something that Apple was recently rumored to be about to give a glimpse of its AI advancements ended up not happening.
But let’s get to what bothers us about this news, and that is the renewal of the iPad Pro, more than a substantial development compared to the previous generation, and that at least made many of us eager to give it a try because, at least on paper, it looks very promising. Of course, the new iPad Air was also introduced. If you want more information about them, you can find them in this news.
We will start, like Apple in its presentation, to talk about the screen, the new screen, which, as leaks have already told us, is now built with an OLED panel, but not an OLED panel, as we have already seen in many other devices. No, they wanted to move on and have created what they call a tandem OLED, which consists of overlapping two panels of this type provide a much clearer picture. As a result, it can reach its standard brightness 1000 nits in both SDR and HDRand adjust to value Peak 1,600 nits.
However, there were doubts as to whether OLED technology would reach both sizes or just the largest. The good news is that this new screen technology, which Apple has called Ultra Retina XDR is available for both 11-inch and 13-inch models (effectively 0.1 inch was added to the previous generation model). These are the resolutions of both models:
Another big piece of news that has leaked in recent days but still left us in doubt is the new iPad Pro They represent a double generation leap in relation to their SoCas new silicon is scheduled to debut Apple M4. In the next publication, we will delve into this new generation of Apple integrated device, which repeats 3 nanometer photolithography and which represents an evolution over the M3 mainly in terms of its computing capacity of artificial intelligence. That task falls to the Neural Engine, which now has 16 cores and has been optimized over the previous version, making it now capable of up to 38 trillion operations per second. Yes, you read that right and I wasn’t wrong, 38 trillion (38 trillion in the keynote, English).
In its debut, we will find two versions of the M4 chip, which we will find depending on the storage capacity of the iPad Pro that we choose. These are 256 gigabytes, 512 gigabytes, 1 terabyte and 2 terabytes. And these are the main features of both (points where they differ are in bold):
Apple also tweaked the design of the iPad Pro, resulting in a significant reduction in thickness, only 0.53 centimeters for the 11-inch model. 0.51 centimeters in 13 inches. So much so that we actually face the thinnest device designed by Apple in its entire history, even above the iPod Nano, which was mentioned in the presentation as a reference in this regard. These are its dimensions and weight:
They also arrived from his hand the new Magic Keyboard and Smart Folio (as well as the Apple Pencil Pro, which we discussed in another publication), in two sizes that fit both versions of the iPad Pro 2024. The main novelty that we find on the keyboard is that it now has a new row of buttons at the top, which provides direct access to some of the most frequently used functions, such as adjusting the sound volume and screen brightness.
Another interesting new feature of the Magic Keyboard is that it now has larger trackpad with haptic feedback which combined with the aluminum wrist rest makes it much more comfortable to use. The keyboard magnetically attaches to the iPad and the Smart Connector instantly activates power and direct data transfer, without the need for Bluetooth. And in case you need to charge, it also has a USB-C port for that purpose.
Apple has one of its big fiefdoms in content creators and editors, and the iPad Pro is a platform designed with them in mind, not exclusively, of course, but as a market segment it heavily favors. Hand in hand with the introduction of this new generation, she also announced another arrival new version of Logic Pro 2 Final Cut for iPad. The first will debut next Monday, May 13th, the second will debut a little later this spring.
The new iPad Pro can now be reserved on Apple’s website. Below we will see the prices for each of them 12 possible configurations for each size, based on storage capacity (256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB), wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+cellular) and the type of glass used on the screen (normal and nano-textured). For easier orientation of the prices, we divide them into two tables, one for each size, and the prices of the main accessories are listed behind them.
