ZOTAC GAMING ZONE is a new portable console that the Taiwanese company specializing in compact computers presented at Computex. Boys from PC world They’ve got their hands on it and have released a “first look” video that confirms everything we’ve known about it so far. And it’s not bad at all, as you’ll see..
We already said that the Taiwan trade show was the perfect place to move the segment of handheld gaming machines, which is in full swing after succumbing to the versatility of smartphones just a few years ago. We’ve always said it; Where there is a dedicated machine, all mobile phones are removed. At the cost of having to buy a second device, this is understandable.
At the fair we saw the announcement of the next generations of ASUS Ally, MSI Claw and some other newer batches from manufacturers such as ADATA or the one in question from Zotac.
The console is based on a 7-inch AMOLED display, 1080p native resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and 800 nits maximum brightness. Despite the screen quality, few OLEDs with Windows and high refresh rates do not support variable refresh rates.
It has a processor inside AMD Ryzen 7 8840U with integrated Radeon 780M graphics, 16 GB of LPDDR5-7500 memory and an M.2 2280 slot with a 512 GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. It has a number of ports such as 2 USB4 Type C; 3.5mm audio and microSD card reader (UHS-II). It has a 48.5 Wh battery and supports wireless connectivity Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
As for the design, let’s just say it has dual touchpads reminiscent of the ones Valve provided for the Steam Deck. On Windows, they could also help navigate an operating system that isn’t exactly designed for portable devices. To accommodate these panels, Zotac positioned the analog sticks to be symmetrical rather than staggered. The stereo speakers point downward rather than forward.
The analog sticks and triggers feature Hall sensors and the triggers are adjustable via a switch on the back of the machine that allows you to switch between 2 different resistance/sensitivity modes. There are also two buttons and a kickstand on the back. The handheld has dimensions of 310 x 125 x 40 mm and weighs approximately 700 grams.
It comes pre-installed with Windows 11 and no price was given for the console with it launch is planned for the third quarter of 2024. More information | Zotac
