Hyundai has introduced its first A-segment electric car, the Inster, ahead of its debut at the Korea International Mobility Expo in Busan at the end of June.

The new model is largely based on the South Korea-only Casper, so it will be called the Casper Electric in its home country, but the model will be called the Inster in global markets. Hyundai says its name comes from the words “friendly” and “innovative” and says the new electric car will “set new standards in terms of range, technology and safety features and redefine what buyers can expect from a vehicle in this class.”

We see round LED daytime running lights and pixelated turn signals visible at the front. The trailers show a charging port on the front. The LED taillights have been redesigned and now feature a simpler pixel design like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. A large Inster badge can be seen on the rear doors.

Hyundai hasn’t released any photos of the Inster’s interior, but spy shots suggest it will borrow many elements from the Casper, including a digital instrument cluster, large central infotainment screen and three-spoke steering wheel.

Rumor has it that Hyundai plans to sell the Inster for less than €20,000, which would make it the brand’s cheapest electric car. The vehicle will be powered by BorgWarner’s onboard powertrains, although power details are unknown. Hyundai also has not yet provided detailed information about the car’s battery and range.
