Windows Defender has a performance issue

Windows Defender, Microsoft’s security proposal for Windows, has developed very positively since its inception So far, to the point that he received the highest AV-Test score in 2020, which proves that Redmond’s efforts in this solution were worth it. To date, the rating has not changed significantly compared to 2020, so it is still considered a relatively reliable option for PC security.

This, however does not mean that Windows Defender is perfect. For example, more than a year ago, we learned of a problem that caused this software to fill thousands of files in the system’s boot hard disk for no apparent reason. It wasn’t a serious bug, but it could be quite annoying, although fortunately Microsoft quickly resolved it with a quick release update.

And today we know from TechPowerUP, another problem with Windows Defender, an error in its configuration that causes when using software on an Intel chip system, performance may drop sharply unjustifiably. Owners of 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th generation Intel Core processors, both desktop and mobile, have reported such a loss of performance in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Systems with AMD processors are not affected.

Windows Defender has a performance issue

The problem is not that Windows Defender has any impact on system performance, after all, we are talking about a security solution that must constantly monitor what is happening on the computer, something that inevitably consumes resources. The problem is that it consumes far more resources than it should, and this is caused by improper use of certain features related to CPU performance indicators.

At the moment, however, there are two solutions to this problem the first should be disposed of immediatelybecause it consists of disabling the real-time system monitoring feature using Windows Defender. I do not think it is necessary to explain the consequences of this action, suffice it to say that it will be a sensible option only if it goes hand in hand with the installation of another security solution.

Another option is to use itA solution published by the same media that reports on this incidentand that it has a specific function to solve this problem. The program is called Counter Control, you can download it from this website and once you have it ready, go to the options section and select “Windows Defender Boost”. Since then, Windows Defender performance issues should be fully alleviated. Please note, however, that this application only works on Intel-based systems.
