Avast is the new owner of cookies I don’t care, a web browser extension that you may not know about, or you may know because it has millions of users worldwide. For a simple reason: it’s the balm on this rotten internet… cookies, of course.

You should be a default behavior, so it will depend on the configuration of each site and most try to exploit by loading the user with as many cookies as possible; however, with good browser configuration, such as blocking by default cookies from third parties, plus relevant security extensions, handle voting to a greater extent.

The thing is, as a cookie developer, I don’t care a few days ago that the extension is now «part of the avast family«. Avast, yes, a security company, the developer of one of the best and most famous antiviruses on the market. And that’s basically it. As the developer explains in a brief statement, the expansion will continue to be in charge and will continue to be free for everyone.

What did Avast pay some money for extension that is open source (several have already been published Forks), is not explained, although Avast does not pay for the code, but for the work of its developer and ownership of the name. On the other hand, I don’t care about the developer of the cookies, he talks about the Czech company in terms of “reliability”… It can be allowed, but it’s a squeak, given the impeccable records I don’t care about cookies.

It is worth reminding Avast how they bought Ccleaner and filled it with advertising, although they later corrected it; how it collected its users’ data to sell to the highest bidder, even though more business also fixed… From examples like this if the product is free, you are the product. Of course, later you will see who bought this data and…

Anyway. That will have to wait impatiently, to see what happens to I don’t care about cookies if it stays the same or fails under Avast. In the meantime, yes, you can continue to install the extension in Firefox and in Chromium and its derivatives (Brave, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera… Not in Vivaldi: see the section “Privacy and security> Block trackers and ads> Manage sources and activate filters).
