When we talk about NAS devices like these QNAP TS-x62 (262 and 462), many people usually think of them as network storage devices only. And it’s logical, of course, since NAS is nothing more than an abbreviation for Network Attached Storage, storage connected to a network, that is, storage connected to a network that has the necessary software that allows remote access to it. either in a local network or directly over the Internet.

However, as these devices and their operating systems have evolved, their versatility has grown exponentially. Of course, they still provide online storage support, but they can also serve as servers for a variety of purposes: from providing multimedia content to managing backups, managing file downloads, and even providing us with personal cloud services wherever we are. To do this, the NAS must combine storage capacity, processing capacity and maximum connection speed.

A clear example of this is the QNAP TS-x62 series that the company just introduced, which consists of the TS-262 and TS-462 models, both equipped with processors Dual-core Intel Celeron N4505 2.9 GHz processor, integrated that supports the number of functions that can be developed and that is complemented by the four gigabytes of RAM that we find in the TST-262 and two, expandable up to 16, that the TS-462 integrates. In both cases, we can further improve its performance with two PCIe M.2 slots for SSD cache and a PCIe Gen 3 slot that allows users to expand the NAS functions with various QNAP PCIe cards.

In terms of speed, the QNAP TS-x62 has a network port 2.5 GbE (which, yes, requires CAT5e cables to get the most out of it), so we’re talking about a NAS capable of handling 4K video without bandwidth issues. But for those who want to use it mainly for video playback, they can also connect it directly to the TV because it has that too one HDMI 2.1 port.

The main difference between the two models is the number of disk mounting positions. In the TST-262 we find two bays, while the TST-462 allows the assembly of four units. In both cases, the maximum supported speed is 6Gb/s, they allow the installation of 2.5 and 3.5-inch SATA disks, 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and support Hot Swapping.

QNAP TS-x62 NAS are already on sale in Spain and you can find them in the usual network of distributors. In the case of PcComponentes, they are also currently enjoying interesting discounts. In the case of the TS-262, its usual price is 645.23 euros, but now it has a discount of 14%, so you can get it for only 551.48 euros. And as for the TS-462, its regular price is 726.59 euros, but it currently has a 9% discount, bringing it down to 654.58 euro.
