Ukraine, the American company Space Exploration Technologies Corp. signed an agreement with Elon Musk regarding the supply of more than 10,000 Starlink satellite communication terminals.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was expressed by Deputy Prime Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in an interview with Bloomberg.
It is noted that the devices will be sent to Ukraine in the coming months.
“SpaceX and Elon Musk are quick to respond to problems and help us… Musk assured us that he will continue to support Ukraine. I texted him that day when we had a power outage and he responded immediately and has already taken some steps. He understands the situation, ‘ said Fedorov.
According to him, Ukraine has received about 22,000 Starlink antennas since the beginning of the full-scale war.
Although there is no contract yet, the official refused to disclose their names publicly, saying some EU governments are willing to share the payment. “All financial issues are resolved for today.” Fedorov added that Ukraine will need to find additional funds in the spring.
“There is no alternative to satellite communications,” the minister admitted.
The country’s government’s contingency plan requires the deployment of thousands of “unbreakable points”, from which Ukrainians can provide uninterrupted access to electricity, heating and the Internet, some of which will be provided by Starlink antennas.
“We are ready to live without electricity for a month, at least for mobile communications and SMS messages … As for the Internet, we have a lot of Starlinks, but the main thing is we got one more confirmation. Fedorov “will be used to stabilize the communication link in critical situations” said.
As Ukrinform reported, 5,474 “immunity points” studies were held in Ukraine, and “responsible business immunity points” are also being opened.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Procedure on the organization and operation of “invincibility points”, which defines their types, equipment and distribution algorithms. In total, 15,000 of them are planned to open in Ukraine.
