A former employee of Facebook talked about the possibility of the social network affecting users’ smartphones remotely. This was reported by the New York Post.

According to George Hayward, a former expert of the company said in a conversation with the media that the social network has tested negative with users’ smartphones. According to him, Meta can secretly run on the device of a Facebook or Facebook Messenger user various computing processes that use the gadget’s resources and negatively affect the autonomy of the device.

The expert also said that such tests actually kill the battery of the smartphone, as it forces the popular social networking program to actively run in the background. “I said to my manager, ‘This might hurt someone,’ and he said that by hurting a few people we can help the majority.”said the engineer. George Hayward stated that he refused to take the test, which caused him to lose his job. In November 2022, a Meta employee accused the company of manipulating users’ smartphones and filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court.

According to Hayward, he doesn’t know how many people unwittingly participated in the test, but he did read the internal Meta materials describing the rules for running the test. “I have never seen a more terrible document in my career”– finished the author.
