Why put two 16:9 screens side by side when you can also choose a 32:9 monitor. For this reason, Philips introduces the 45B1U6900C SuperWide.
With a screen diagonal of 113 centimeters (44.5 inches), an aspect ratio of 32:9 and 5,120 x 1,440 pixels, one expects enough numbers to practice on the new SuperWide monitor from Philips. Why the manufacturer chooses the unpronounceable product name Philips 45B1U6900C is a mystery to us. The ambitions of the new SuperWide screen are clearer: Philips wants to replace a dual screen setup with two 16:9 screens.
With the curved screen, Philips is targeting multitasking professionals and has therefore equipped the screen with USB-C. You can use the display as a dock that provides power and even wired internet connection through the RJ45 connector. Other relevant specifications include HDR400 and an integrated switch that allows you to easily connect multiple devices to one monitor.
Philips specifies a brightness of 450 cd/m² for the screen, which should also be sufficient for bright offices. In addition, the manufacturer specifies a color gamut of 123 percent sRGB, whereby Delta E must be less than two. The screen has built-in speakers.
Although there was no money to come up with a better name for the marketing team, Philips pays for the TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe RPF 50 certification. This suggests that the screen isn’t emitting too much blue light: a useless feature with no scientific basis. Unfortunately, we see pointless certification for monitors and laptop screens starting to become hype. Ergonomics are more important for the health of the user. So it’s good news that the monitor is height adjustable by 15cm.
The Philips 45B1U6900C is available now at a suggested retail price of EUR 1,089 including VAT.
