Over the past year, the number of car loans issued has almost quadrupled to 68,900 loans. And this cannot but surprise – especially considering that another financial crisis is on the way.

It would seem that it’s time to buy pasta at a discount and put aside savings for a rainy day, but no – our fellow citizens desperately buy iron carriages. As FI Tyutchev said: “Russia cannot be understood with the mind” – that’s really true.

So, for the period from April 2022 to April 2023, the Russians issued 68,900 car loans for a total amount of 90.4 billion rubles, which is four times higher than the figure for the previous annual period. And the average loan size increased by 7.1% to an unprecedented 1.25 million rubles.

At the same time, the number of loans in arrears of more than 90 days broke the previous anti-record. In April there were 110,100, a total of 68,300 billion rubles, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Scoring Bureau.

Recall that previous data on car loans issued in April was also shared by research firm Frank RG. According to her, Russian banks approved car loans last month for 109.5 billion rubles, a record since 2013. The average loan amount was 1.42 million rubles, which was a new achievement since February 2022, when this figure was at the level of 1, 4 million rubles lay.
