The Central Bank of the Russian Federation in its “Overview of OSAGO insurance indicators for passenger cars used as taxis” has published statistics on accidents and compensation for damages resulting from the activities of employees in this area. Analysts have come to the conclusion that for every seven accidents involving taxi drivers, only one is provoked by another, ‘ordinary’ driver. This is evident from the statistics of payments under OSAGO for 2022.
The regulator calculated that the average amount of insurance compensation for damage caused by a taxi driver was 74,104 rubles. The average payment for damage to property in an accident is 73,642 rubles, and for damage to life and health – 131,957 rubles.
The average cost of an OSAGO policy for a car used in a taxi was 26,500 rubles last year. In addition, in 2022, 175,000 “car citizens” were spent on “air flights”, which is 7.7% less than the same indicator in 2021.
Insurers in 2021 spent more than 100% of the proceeds from the sale of OSAGO policies to the owners of such cars – more than 4 billion rubles – to compensate for damage from taxis for 2022. Moreover, not all insurance cases have been closed at the moment: for some accidents last year at the hands of a taxi, payments will be made in 2023. And according to the policy issued for taxis in 2022, 2 billion rubles have already been transferred to date in compensation for damage to victims of road accidents by taxi drivers.
