Russian factories increased passenger car production by 11 times

In May, 42,200 passenger cars rolled off the assembly lines of Russian car factories, which is 11 times more than in the last spring month of 2022. However, there is nothing to be happy about here, because the reason for such a strong growth lies solely in the effect of a low base: a year ago, in a period of complete uncertainty and a dire shortage of components, companies produced only 3,700 cars.

More than a year has passed since the start of NWO and the events that followed, which seriously affected all sectors. During this time, domestic car factories managed to solve, although far from all, but still many problems – including finding new partners from “friendly” countries, import substitution of a number of components. LADA Vesta NG returned to the conveyor, Moskvich launched the production of crossovers with indices “3” and “3rd”, “Avtotor” – a whole scattering of “Chinese”. As a result, the number of cars produced began to grow.

And in May, the indicator jumped 11 times, and given the results of the first five months, it is difficult to call a rosy picture. Since the beginning of the year, car factories have produced 155,000 cars, which is 42% less than in the same period in 2022.

However, we can safely assume that the situation will only improve further, as there are quite a few launches planned for the second half of the year. For example, AVTOVAZ has already started assembling the LADA X-Cross 5 crossover at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg (this happened in June, so it was not included in the May statistics), and in the fall Togliatti will resume production of Largus.

In addition, we are waiting for the Moskvich 5 crossover and the Moskvich 6 liftback, as well as new models of the “heavenly” brands Kaiyi, BAIC and SWM, which have “registered” with the Kaliningrad Avtotor. In addition, the fate of the companies Mercedes-Benz (in the Moscow region) and Volkswagen (in Kaluga) that have changed hands has not yet been decided. It is possible that something (a bit “Chinese”) will be produced before the end of the year.
