How long will the Russians be without Nissan cars?

The Nissan brand has not officially left Russia. However, immediately after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, this brand first stopped importing cars assembled abroad, and then stopped its factory, which is located near St. Petersburg.

According to Nissan chief executive Makoto Uchida, the shutdown of operations in Ukraine and Russia has caused the company about half a billion dollars in losses. At the same time, the head of the brand said that operations in the Ukrainian and Russian markets would not resume, at least until the end of March 2023.

Mr. Uchida also noted that the lack of sales could have a “material impact” on the company’s financial results. But the brand’s management has no plans to resume deliveries or launch the factory, at least not in the near future.

Recall that the Quashqai, X-Trail and Murano models were produced at the plant near St. Petersburg, and Renault’s Moscow site made the Terrano platform for the Duster. Now the St. Petersburg conveyor belts and capital have stopped.

It is logical to assume that the Chinese brands Chery, Geely and Haval are looking to conquer the niche of the Nissan market. After all, even the Chinese ambassador recently said that Russia would be literally overrun with cars from the Middle Kingdom.
