Hot July: why sales of used cars in Russia soared

Analysts are calling July a record month for the used car market, with demand for used cars at dealerships growing 7-10% over the month and at marketplaces 15%. Similar dynamics in the new passenger car segment. The excitement is being observed in the area of private lending. Reasons – people are afraid of the coming price increase of everything and everyone.

“Kommersant” interviewed market participants and they all unanimously confirmed that we have a significant increase in sales in July in the “secondary”. Analysts call this state of affairs atypical for the usually sluggish midsummer. And they attribute the dynamics to the weakening of the ruble and the increase in recycling charges. Dealers note that prices are still stable, but their growth is inevitable in the future.

Rolf North-West and Rolf Dmitrovka register an increase in demand for used cars of about 7% compared to June. Ten percent growth last month was seen by Avtodom and AvtoSpetsTsentr. And on marketplaces, it even reaches 15% while reducing the number of offers.

Oddly enough, about 500,000 used cars were sold in July, according to Avtostat, which is 17% higher than the same indicator last year. And only 0.6% higher than the June figures. And this means that due to external reasons, the market has long been in an overheated state. People were afraid of the price hike in the middle of summer and the ongoing turmoil with the ruble. After all, the figures for July are generally lower than those for May and June.
