Having learned about the imminent import ban of many right-hand drive vehicles from the Land of the Rising Sun in Russia, our fellow citizens rushed to buy them literally at the last minute. And the magnitude of this phenomenon only became clear now, when the Japanese authorities sorted out their foreign trade data for July.
In mid-July it was announced that Japan would ban the export of electric vehicles, hybrids and cars with traditional combustion engines with a capacity of more than 1.9 liters to Russia from August 9. And then the importers of right-hand drive “beusheks”, trying to have time to jump into the last car of the departing train, immediately increased the size of their purchases at the car auctions of the island state.
According to the latest data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance, 53% more cars were brought from Japan to Russia in July than the average for the month of this year. 33,192 cars went to us with an average monthly level of 21,600 units. Moreover, the lion’s share of them, namely 32,116 units, belong to the category of passenger cars. For reference: in July 2022 it was 84% less.
It is also interesting that against the backdrop of an increase in car deliveries to Russia, the Japanese Ministry of Finance recorded a sharp drop of 44.4% in exports of vehicle spare parts and components to our country last month.
